purple zebra stripes

this is my first attempt at a zebra stripe mani and i think it went pretty good! i love the colors i used. they go together super well. i like that its just the hint of a pattern not full-blown. but anyways. i used 3 coats of wet n wild wild card/invitation - thats a really weird name for a polish. the picture below honestly doesn't look like the polish. i guess thats what i get for taking it inside at night.

zebra stripes with no top coat, and a bit messy.

with one coat of top coat. i don't know though i might add another coat. when i touch it its still a bit lumpy, but i might just ignore it. id rather not wait for another top coat to dry.

del sol polish!

i just got this new polish last weekend when i was up north at mackinaw with my boyfriend. we were walking around this little outside shopping mall and we found this store called Del Sol. the stuff in there is awesome! everything starts out black and white, i mean t-shirts, bracelets, headbands, etc, and when it is under UV light it turns into beautiful colors. so i found nail polish, which of course i had to buy. whenever you are outside it changes colors, even on a cloudy day! i bought a blue one that turns to purple and a darker blue glitter one that turns to green. they are kinda expensive, $9 a bottle, but whatever, they are cool.

heres the blue one that turns to purple. its a little brighter in real life, but its pretty close. sorry for the shitty looking sticker thats on and the polish is starting to come off. i never got the chance to take a pic while it was still new; the purple pics below are worse. but anyways, i just got these new stickers and they are awesome. I've been looking for some stickers, but our dollar store doesn't have any >=[. so the only place to get them is somewhere like sallys and they are a bit expensive, $4 for one sheet with like 20ish stickers on it.

heres the purple in the sun, well clouds that day. it was wayyyy more purple in real life, the picture makes it look more gray. as i said, sorry for the crappy sticker thats on. this picture was taken about 4 days after i actually did the polish so it was starting to come off. the rhinestone already had.

more previous manis!

ugh. blogger has been pissing me off. it wont let me upload more than one picture at once. but anyways here is some more nail art ive done previously. the next polishes i do ill have more pics for each one but this is before i even started blogging so i didnt know i should.

i needed something quick and simple this time so i decided to use my new purple metallic nail polish. buttt half way through i thought it was too plain so i added the purple on top. kind of a french but not? i dont know but i LOVE metallic and holographic nail polishes. although i hate how most are transparent the first coat so it needs like 3 coats to even look decent. and then all those coats take foreverrrr to dry no matter how much ice water i soak them in. but i still love them so oh well. the polishes i used are Sinful Colors Let Me Go and OPI Color of the Zen-tury.

oh how i love this one. im in love with the dark purple. im in love with the purple glitter. so put together its too amazing. plus my nails were nice and long so it makes it even better. i had fun doing this one, but not taking it off. this will definitely be a design i do again. the polishes i used were Wet N Wild Sparked and Wet N Wild Night Prowl.

i dont know how i feel about this one. i love the two blues, but i dont know if i necessarily like the accent nail a completely different color. hmmm something to think about i guess. i used Love & Beauty Baby Blue and Wt N Wild Blue Moon.

ahh more purple sparkle! i love purple (and blue) in case you havent noticed. again, definitely be something i will do again. used the polishes Love & Beauty Mauve, LA Colors Silver Glitter, and NYC Starry Silver Glitter.

i really hate the color red. like really. but i have a BJILLION red nail polishes. ok not that many but i have like 10, and they are all relatively close. sooo i should probably start using some of them up. thinking about maybe mixing them too. who knows. but like ive said i suck at getting a straight line (i AM a perfectionist so to most people the line would probably be fine) so i used the blue glitter to hide it a little. and it turned out fine so yay! polishes i used are OPI French Bordeaux and LA Colors Blue Glitter.

wow did i hate this one. but it was a learning experience. my lines got a little to thick and kind of took over. and the weird flagish looking design on my ring finger... wtf was i doing? ugh lets move on. polishes were OPI Bastille My Heart, LA Colors Silver, and LA Colors Silver Glitter.

silver shatter! ahhh i love shatter. although i learned not to do silver shatter over a light color... DUH! but i really do like it anyways. of course i used OPI Silver Shatter and OPI Kyoto Pearl.

sorry for the blurry picture. it was taken on my ipad which doesnt have the BEST camera but it will do. you still get the concept. art deco inspired and deez nails blogger inspired (i love her blog and gets tons of inspiration from her if you havent been able to tell). i really like the idea but again, the lines got too thick on me and the blobs too blobby. used the polishes Sinful Colors Rise and Shine, LA Colors White, LA Colors Silver Glitter, Love & Beauty Purple.

my first sponge mani. and first rhinestone application. the sponge is kinda difficult at first but it looks a lot better after a top coat. the rhinestones i actually really hate. i dont know why, i guess they are just too large and stick off my nail too far. i ended up popping all but two off by the end of the next day. to stick them i used some sort of nail glue... the name of it escapes me right now. i used the polishes NYC Sidewalkers, Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet, and OPI Alpine Snow.

ohhh how i love this mani. i love the colors, i love the glitter =D it was my mani for the premier of the last harry potter film, hence the lightening bolt. the glitter was a b**** to get off though... i dont know how many cotton balls i went through. i used the polishes Sally Hansen Black Out, LA Colors Yellow, and LA Colors Gold Glitter.

my superman mani as i call it. i was eating some superman ice cream the one day and looked at my nails and was like woahh! ehh minus the orange but still. these polka dots are one of my favorite things to do (using a dental instrument =D) and i love the colors. they are all very summery. i used the polishes Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow, Sally Hansen Sun Kissed, Sally Hansen Blue Me Away!, and Sally Hansen Grass Slipper.

Photos don't want to upload so i guess ill do those later..

I've found in my few months of nail art, that some design need utensils. i haven't had to go out and buy anything yet =D but in the future i may. everything i use is something I've either found around the house, or at my moms job (she's a dental assistant). i use anything and everything to give me the designs i want and to help me paint easier. I've used cutips, tweezers, wooden nail sticks, dotter tools, foil, styrofoam containers, nail stickers, etc. I've got a whole container full of random things.

also, i found this trick online to dry nails considerably faster. dip them in ICE cold water. it really works and makes them dry soooo much faster, but WARNING: they are still a tad sticky after so don't go flinging your hands around and hitting your nails against everything or you WILL screw them up.

Just going to do a quick blog spam for what I've done so far

Butterfly wings. I absolutely loved this mani. I found it incredibly hard to do however. my black polish started to get thick and chunky towards the end. i really don't know why but it still turned out really nice. for the polishes i used: OPI Alpine Snow, Sally Hansen Sun Kissed, and LA Color black.

i thought this idea was brilliant when i saw it! i had no clue newspaper could go on nails like that, and so easily also! i used font from a comic strip because i liked the font more than regular newspaper type. the polish i used was Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet.

A different take on a french manicure. i love blue and i had just gotten blue crackle. a french mani is my favorite thing to do, except on my right hand (I'm right handed). but anyways, i kind of suck at getting a straight line on myself so added the glitter to hide it and violà! it looks just fine.

this was my fourth of july mani. i know, not really red white and blue, but its got lots of gold glitter and its festive. when i was thinking of what to do i kind of thought of the night sky, so i tried to make it look like that. i used the polishes Sally Hansen Gunmetal, Sally Hansen Blue Me Away!, and gold glitter flakes.

my first mani that i ever experimented with. i know not very impressive but it my my first one! i wanted to experiment with glitter and dots and just seeing what happened with what colors and what tools. i used the polishes OPI Color of the Zen-tury, OPI Ski Teal We Drop, and LA Colors Silver Glitter.

first post & about me

I guess in my first post i'll tell a little about me. I'm 19, in college, studying art, no clue what i want to do with my life. I honestly don't capitalize, the computer corrects it for me 99% of the time. I've found my soulmate =] You'll hear me talk about him occasionally.

I guess i should talk about the reason for this blog. Over the last few months i have fallen in love with using nail polish again. For the past 3 years i had a job that wouldn't let me paint my nails, and actually destroyed them. In May, however, i got a new job and i can have my nails painted however i want. It was then that i started collecting and it kept growing to the collection i have today. But i get bored with just painting my nails one color, so i decided to spice it up and work on art for my nails so they aren't so boring. I found a few blog sites that i fell in love with and they became my inspiration.

If along the way anyone has any questions or tips for me as i am always learning, please feel free to leave me a comment =]
